HCAS is proud to announce we are now a MAP school (MAP = Measures of Academic Progress). NWEA MAP Suite is one the most well-known standardized tests used to measure students' growth in Math, Reading, Language Usage and Science around the world. As HCAS is a data-driven school when it comes to making decisions for what is best for our students, we are very excited to begin using these resources.
MAP testing will be done twice each year, once at the start and once at the end of each school year. The first test provides a base-line of where students are starting for the year with their skills and also allows for goal setting. The second test is then used to measure student growth, making it possible to know which learning strategies were effective and help us all to consider other strategies that could be helpful. All HCAS students in grades 1-10 are tested in Math, Reading and Language Usage as of the 2020-2021 school year.
At the end of each test, all families will be emailed a Family Report that outlines the specific learning needs of each student. We ask all parents to keep this information private, as this information is used for the intention of promoting learning, free from any unnecessary pressure.
For parents who are interested in learning more, please feel free to visit the www.nwea.org website or speak with the Academic Director Mr. Nathan Bryant who is overseeing the implementation of the MAP Learning Suite for HCAS.
